What lies ahead of me now?

September 3rd, 2007

5 days of camping.

Luckily I’m so damn tired after the first part of the trip that I think I could sleep anywhere right now.

We rekaggered our trip a bit and after today we’re heading home-ish (via 5 days of camping). Not to worry, we’ve taken TONS of pictures which I will happily share once I get home to my own internet connection.

Today we’re off to see Anne of Green Gables’s house!! (Yes, I’m a dork, which the hubby keeps reminding me). Prince Edward Island even has a lisence plate with Anne on it! They really know how to milk what makes them famous.

Tomorrow we’ll head off to the Bay of Fundy (off of New Brunswick instead of Nova Scotia which we had originally planned) to see the worlds biggest tides.

Some campsites claim to have wireless internet access but I don’t know, even for me, who has never camped before, I’m not sure if that sits well. Doesn’t it take some of the wilderness out of camping. Anyway I may or may not check in again before I’m back in the states.

I can’t wait to get home and catch up on, well, everything!!

Bonjour, eh

August 31st, 2007

Greetings from Montreal.

This actually might be the last time I’ll have internet access in more than a week!! I don’t know how I’ll handle it.

We spent today in Montreal. It was quite nice but it’s also kind of hard. I know about twenty words of French and none of them are helpful for actually getting around or anything. Though it’s fun to watch French Canadian TV.

Tomorrow we’ll be driving off to Quebec City.

Then a rough day of driving all the way through New Brunswick to Prince Edward Island. From there it’s smallish hotels and camping until I get home, hence the no internet access (although one campground does claim to have wireless. I guess we’ll see).

I’ll post again when I get a chance but for now I’ve got an apple turnover with my name on it.

Canada, eh?

August 29th, 2007

So, this is day…5 of my vacation.

Only 5?

I unfortunatly forgot to pack my pedometer but I’m pretty sure I could have walked the whole way to Canada by now. I’m typing from Toronto, well, suburban Toronto anyway, we kind of decided we were to tired to explore too much of the city today.

Niagra falls was fun. Wet.

I decided that the only souvenier I wanted from there was the cheepest, tackiest little plastic snowglobe that I could find. I got one for $2.00.

We went to an African Lion Safari thing (yes, in Canada, not Africa or anything) and it was super cool. A baboon sat on the hood of my car. Honestly though, they seemed to prefer mini-vans and SUV’s and those had 5-6 baboons on them.

I also have zebra snot and ostrich slobber on my car.

Canada’s a great time, lol!

Today we went to the Ontario Science Center and tomorrow we’re heading off to the Toronto Zoo before heading off to Montreal.

It also means I have internet access for at least two more days, lol.

Oh, I haven’t tried Tim Horton’s yet, but they really are on every corner and I WILL try some Timbits before I leave here (or as I called them when I couldn’t remember their name, Horton Holes, which actually sounds better, I think).

On Vacation

August 25th, 2007

So we’ve headed out on our road trip!!

We’ve already hit New Jersey and are now in Pennsylvania (but since both of those were family visits I don’t know if they can be called vacation yet technically). We’ve amassed a list of 26 license plates from different states.

So, I’ll be gone for two weeks. I’ll probably be checking in occasionally, maybe posting pictures if I have the time.

I hope you’ll stop by occasionally over the next few weeks (or get google reader and get any blog when a new post appears - see post below).

So, while I’m on my trip I want to hear about some of your favorite vacations!!

Pop Culture Meme

August 23rd, 2007

I stole this from Mary ’cause it looked like fun.

Here are the rules:

1. Go to this link at Pop Culture Madness (scroll down - see the list of years on the left? And make sure you scroll down to the actual years, not just the decades, it’s kind of far down on the left.)

2. Pick the year you turned 18

3. Pick five songs from that year

4. Wax nostalgic about each song and why it’s special

5. Pass it on

(I think you should get extra points if for some reason if none of your choices don’t make you sound like an idiot. Personally I would not get those points).

I’ll Be There For You - Rembrandts AKA, The Friends song.

When I went away to college my friend (who was staying at home for college) made me a mix tape (aw, yeah) and this was the first song on it. I think I still have the mix tape somewhere even though I haven’t had a tape player in years.

Have You Ever Really Loved a Woman? - Bryan Adams

Mostly I remember this was from a Johnny Depp movie that sucked. Short trip back to losertown, but my friends and I used to make each other mix tapes and I think this might have been on one of them. There was also something about Elton John and the Gay Easter Bunny…my memory gets a little fuzzy after that.

Everything Zen - Bush

I don’t know if it was this song that I really remember (don’t think it was but can’t for the life of me come up with another Bush song) BUT, one of the guys who lived in the room right above me my freshman year of college liked Bush. And when he was happy, he’d come home from class, put in a Bush CD, turn his stereo up as loud as it could go and “dance” around his room. It felt like my cieling was going to colapse. Freaked me the hell out!!

Send Me On My Way - Rusted Root

Ah, Rusted Root.

The ultimate in college rock. And they were from my hometown no less.

Let Her Cry - Hootie and the Blowfish

In college I used to leave my radio on quite a bit and then leave the room. My now hubby and his then roomie would come looking for me and they insisted that EVERY time they came looking for me and I wasn’t there Hootie was on the radio. It was like Hootie was on constanly in my dorm room.

I had vague memories from a lot of the other songs mentioned on the list. It was the midst of grunge - which I was never really a fan of - and my roomie and I had lists of bands that we wouldn’t play when the other one was in the room. Several of those are on the list.

Anybody else want to play? If you do make sure you leave a comment here and let me know so I can come see.

Google Reader

August 22nd, 2007

Several months ago I started putting all of the blogs I read into Google reader. I started, hit a few roadblocks (because a surprising # of blogs don’t have RSS feeds) and then stopped.

Well, a couple of days ago I took some time and added a bunch more and then I’ve actually been using it.

OMG, it’s FANTASTIC.

I don’t know how I lived for so long without it.

It’s taken my morning blog hopping from close to 45 minutes or so and now it takes me only about 15 minutes or so. Of course, the problem is what to do with that extra time. I wouldn’t want to use it to, you know, work or anything.

Seriously, for anyone out there looking for a little more time in their day, I highly suggest Google Reader!!

Empty

August 21st, 2007

I’m working hard to completely empty my email box by the time I leave for vacation on Friday.

Right now I’ve got 66 more. Maybe a half dozen of those actually have to do with travelling so that’ll take some away when I get around to printing that stuff out.

I couldn’t even tell you the last time I had a completely empty email inbox. I usually keep some “important” stuff in there (I do have an “Important” folder but I have less important stuff in that one, the real important stuff is in my inbox). But that’s all changed now and eventually it will be empty.

It will.

If it kills me.

Are you an empty inbox kind of person or are you more like me?

Edited to add: As of 11:15 I’m up to 88 emails. *sigh*

Express train to loser town

August 17th, 2007

Ok, so my 30th birthday is about 20 days away. So why, WHY I ask you am I super excited about the premire of High School Musical 2 this evening?

I mean really?

I didn’t like high school when I was in high school, wouldn’t go back for all the money in the world. I have less than no musical ability, so why am I so damn excited?

I’m even sending the hubby out with his friends tonight so I can watch all by myself (therefore be made fun of less). Of course I have to cross my fingers that he doesn’t tell others why I’m not there.

But every day this week there have been commercials during Hannah Montana (remember, I’m on the loser express) and they just make me happy.

So, you know what I’m doing tonight. How about you?

Confession Time

August 16th, 2007

OK, so I have a confession to make and I’m wondering if someone can maybe direct me to a self help group or something.

Ready?

I’m a Target-aholic.

I live for my once a week Target runs.

I haven’t been to the grocery store in probably two weeks but I make sure that I got to Target at least once a week. It’s like my church or something.

But it’s getting to the point that I recognize the workers there and that’s a little embarassing. I want to slow down but…Target is just so great!!

And the worst part (at least according to my hubby) is that I always manage to buy something there. And half the time it’s something stupid. Sometimes it’s food - I’m a total sucker for pretty much all the Archer Farms brand stuff. Sometimes it’s toilettries or something.

Might be too much info but today I bought a new sports bra (even though one would hardly call me sporty).

The thing is, even if I go in for one thing, I can find lots more. I mean today I found tee shirts for five dollars. They’re solid color, I got a red and a grey. They’re great for summer or in the winter I can layer them under sweaters. Great buy at $5 right?

Anyway does anyone know of a support group for Target-aholics that won’t actually make me stop going to Target?

Passionate Ink

August 14th, 2007

If you’re a member of PI, go check out the forums today. We (I use we in the sense that I had absolutely nothing to do wiht it) very successfully installed our new forum software. It’s the same software used by RWAOL and Romance Divas so hopefully people won’t be as scared by it.

Hop over and check it out if you haven’t been there in awhile (or since yesterday morning).

I think there’s still some tweaks that we’ll be doing over the next few weeks but we’re up and running.

Today my task is to figure out the whole Admin thing. I was just kind of getting used to the old one (which let me tell you, was kinda stupid I think). This one looks much easier but I have to get over that initial “I’m gonna break it” fear.

Also, PI renewals are now open though not widely advertised. They will be widely advertised later today but we were waiting on the new forums.

So today is PI day for me. You?
