Past life

Saturday, March 25th, 2006

I don’t know how you feel about it, but you were male in your last earthly incarnation.
You were born somewhere in the territory of modern Borneo around the year 825.

Why do I have a feeling that I was really an orangutan?

Your profession was that of a handicraftsman or mechanic.

What the hell kind of mechanic was I in 825? I’m mean my guess is that there aren’t too many mechanics in Borneo NOW, let alone 1200 years ago.

Your brief psychological profile in your past life:
Seeker of truth and wisdom. You could have seen your future lives. Others perceived you as an idealist illuminating path to future.

Yeah, me, an idealist. Uh-huh.

The lesson that your last past life brought to your present incarnation:
Your lesson is to develop a kind attitude towards people, and to acquire the gift of understanding and compassion.

Well damn it, I don’t wanna.

Do you remember now?

I remember…remember…long orange fur?

Where do you live?

Friday, March 24th, 2006

I had to get up early today (and yesterday) to take the Hubster to a meeting.

It’s seriously right next to our apartment, like I can see the fence not to far away, but to get there you have to go all the way out to the main road and then probably about a mile down the main road.

I suppose some of you are used to long distances like that, but not me - I live in the city! I like things to be right there!

And the worst part is, we don’t have a drive though Starbucks. Two days in a row I was up and out of the house (which out of the house itself is a major accomplishment for me) before 9 and nothing, nada, zilch, I got nothing to show for it.

I mean, I’m not actually going to go in a Starbucks before 9!

So, that’s when I realized…I mean trust me, I knew I never liked my apartment, if nothing else the number of days without water would make me hate it, but I think it’s a little to suburban for me!

It’s a HUGE complex, but you really don’t see that many people around. We’re set pretty far back on the road, and even though I can see the BW Parkway (where millions of people travel everyday) and see the fence to NASA Goddard (where millions of people work everyday - okay maybe thousands - all right, after cutbacks it’s still open I guess is the most positive thing to say about NASA now) I’m totally isolated.

In my old apartment, if I was going somewhere - to the mall, or the grocery store or whatever, I passed things - like the drive through Starbucks. Now, if I’m going anywhere, I don’t really pass anything. There’s nowhere to stop just for the fun of it.

Twenty minutes from downtown DC and I’m strangely isolated!

So tell me about where you live? City, Country, *gasp* Suburbia? Do you like it? Would you want to live anywhere else? What’s the appeal to living in the country? Suburbs? This confimed city girl would like to know!!

Happy 1st Day of Spring

Monday, March 20th, 2006

Yay…spring. Of course they’re forcasting snow here tomorrow, but I’ve learned my lesson this year. I don’t beleive in snow until I see it.

And I’m totally raring to go today. I can’t get things done fast enough. Apparently my week off last week did me some good.

Of course, I am adding stuff to the list quicker than I can get them crossed off so it may be a long fruitless day, but hey, at least stuff is getting done. And from here on in my schedule looks a bit less hectic, too, which is nice.

A completely covered calendar just makes me twitchy.

So, here’s my weekly to do list:
*But Wedding Shower present
*Mail Baby present (not to the same people thankfully)
*Pay Bills
*Monthly newsletter (you know, the one that’s supposed to go out the 15th)
*Finish making giveaway for newsletter (oops)
*Web updates (the ones that were supposed to be done 3/1)
*Catch up on email (last night I managegd to get through all the emails that needed replies - MOSTLY - but today I have to send all the emails that originate from me.
*Edit VP Confessional & Submit
*Edit 2nd Fate story & Submit
*”Plot” (I use the term loosely) & start writing 3rd Fate story.
*Finish judging contest entries (by “finish” all I really mean is actually putting the scores on the scoresheet - they’re already completely judged).

What’s your plan for the week?

Saturday Fun

Saturday, March 18th, 2006

I’m off to the National Aquarium in Baltimore today then to hang out in the Inner Harbor.

Yes, I’ve lived here for 2 years and am finally making it there. To be fair, I have been there before - years ago - in high school.

Anyway I’m excited and I hope to take some cool pictures. I got my fancy new digital camera for Xmas and haven’t used it nearly enough.

Tomorrow is another author interview day so make sure you come back and check it out. And I think I might be going out to test drive new cars (eeeek). Top of my list right now is a Toyota Matrix (just ’cause I think it would be fun to make Matrix jokes everytime I go anywhere).

What are you doing this weekend?

Unsettled

Wednesday, March 15th, 2006

OK, I’m a bit unsettled and I’ve decided this week is going to be a wash on the writing front. There’s just too much “life” getting in the way this week.

Of my 3 closest friends (ok I admit, it’s 3 friends total) ALL of them are going through some life altering thing. (Which I guess since things happen in 3’s leaves me in the clear).

This kind of pales in comparison, but my RWA chapter is having some problems, too. I swear I’ve spent more time on the phone this week than I have in the last few months combined.

Kind of makes me remember why I like my general hermit-ish lifestyle.

Anyway, I really need to do some promo, and I still haven’t updated my website for March, and my newsletter is supposed to come out tomorrow and the prize that I was going to give away isn’t finished yet.

So, I’ve given myself permission to not write this week. Unfortunately it doesn’t really mean that I’ve got any less to do. *Sigh* I just have to keep reminding myself that this is the life I wanted. I wanted to be a writer. I may be good at asking “do you want fries with that,” but that’s not what I want to do.

Hopefully I’ll be ready to write again next Monday (the first day of spring) with vigor. As for this week, I’m just going to do what I gotta do.

You?

FREEEEE - I’m FREEEEEEE

Friday, March 10th, 2006

Sent it off yesterday evening. *deep breath* I can breathe again - okay not really because now I’m going to be checking my email obsessively until I hear back.

Why is writing my dream again?

I’d love to claim that this will be a relaxing weekend, but BIL & FIL are staying over night tomorrow night and tonight I’ve got an MRW Board meeting.

Have I mentioned I don’t do well with things hanging over my head?

My board meeting isn’t until 7:00 tonight. I have a normal day ahead of me. I don’t have to think about leaving until after the Hubster gets home. But all day I’ll be checking the clock. This thing will just hang over my head and I won’t be able to get any work done (not othat I should be getting lots of work done - I should take the day off, but the chances are, that’s not going to happen, damn it.

Anyway, I will be taking this weekend off from writing. I’m going to be reading. I got Alison Kent’s Deep Breath in the mail yesterday as part of her viral marketing thing-a-bobber. It’s staring at me. And I have to dig up a historical to read for Angie’s TBR challenge.

But all I really care about now is that I’m free……

Tell me your good news for the weekend!

Can’t blog…editing.

Oscar wrap-up

Monday, March 6th, 2006

Ok, is it just me or were they pretty darn boring.

I mean even the part where they show all the people who’ve died this year, usually my favorite part, was B-O-R-I-N-G!!!

But, here’s some thoughts from throughout the evening…

I think Juaquin Pheonix is going a little too far as a Johnny Cash Lookalike.

Apparently to succeed as an actress in Hollywood you have to have an enormous head.

One of the cameramen apparently had a little crush on Michelle Williams because we saw her reaction to everything and it was always a blank stare.

I’m pretty sure that Jack Nicholson has a contract with the Oscar producers that says 1. he always gets the same seat in the first row and 2. he must be the first star shown on camera.

The beginning montage of past oscar hosts was the best part of the evening.

If one more multi-millionaire told me that I should go to the moves and see things on the big screen because it was “better” (aka they get more money) I was going to throw something at the TV. Kudos to Larry McMurty for plugging the “culture of the book” (and for wearing jeans!).

I don’t know why I watched the Oscars. The only movie I saw that was nominated for anything was Wallace and Gromit - nope, not true, saw March of the Penguins, too! But, they both won so that’s gotta mean something.

But here’s the thing - I don’t really like movies.

I find most of them boring and usually after I sit and watch a movie i’m upset that I lost 2+ (why do they have to be so freaking long anymore) hours of my life that I can’t get back. I have to be DAMN excited about a movie to see it in the theater. At least if I’m watching it at home I can do something else at the same time.

So, what’d you think about last nights show?

Weekend plans

Saturday, March 4th, 2006

So, what are you doing this weekend.

This is a big weekend for us. We’re going out!!!

Actually we’re catching up on a lot of errands that we haven’t been able to do the last two weeks because we’ve been in other various states (and I mean real states, not states of mind or anything).

So, we’re off to the store ’cause The Hubster needs new pants (finally). And he has to get fitted for a tuxedo for his brothers wedding. And, apparently he needs to go to Chick-fil-a.

So, we’ll circle the mall, getting things we need to get, most likely not finding the stuff we need, and remembering why it is we hate people so much.

Then we’ll come home and start a massive list for next time we go out - you know, after the proper amount of time has passed and we think that maybe a trip to the mall isn’t actually that bad.

Of course, we’ll be wrong again.

Tomorrow I’m making a big crockpot full of chili and a friend is coming over to watch the Oscars. The only movie I’ve seen that’s nominated for anything is Wallace and Gromit: The Curse of the WareRabbit - obviously nominated for best animated movie and I only saw that one two days ago!

So what are your plans for the weekend? Anything fun? Who are you rooting for to win Oscars?

Note: Also will be at FAR Chatters most of the day today (when I’m not running errands) with Kendra Clark so stop by and say Hi! At the moment, I’m the only one there.

Wrinkles

Tuesday, February 28th, 2006

So, when do I have to start worrying about wrinkles?

I see these commercials all the time telling me that I can buy products that would make me look ten years younger. I don’t really need to look 18, so I figure I don’t need this stuff yet.

But then, once I actually get a wrinkle won’t it be too late?

There’s commercials about mini facials, and peels and facelifts in a bottle. Do I need that stuff? If I start now does that mean I’ll never get old?

I’m very concerned that I should be buying this stuff and just don’t know it.

Do you think he worries about wrinkles?
