Fancy new digs

Saturday, January 21st, 2006

Check out my fancy new blog template…

We’re (read: the hubster) still working out some minor kinks, but please let me know if anything looks super funky to you.

I’ve found that the blog looks way different with Opera than it does with Safari. Let me know if it looks funky with your browser and I’ll see what I can do about it.

HTMLed out

Monday, January 2nd, 2006

You’ve no doubt noticed the new blueness of my blog.

Yesterday I decided I needed to upgrade wordpress. Surprisingly it’s even easier than the installation - if you’re not a dumbass and have to do it twice. Then it’s just about as easy as the installation, which is still painfully simple.

But then I decided I was going to move my whole website over to wordpress. I figured it couldn’t be too hard, right?

Yeah, I was wrong.

Actually it wasn’t all that difficult, except for the fact that once I managed about half of it, I realized that I didn’t really like it. So, I’m all blue on the blog now (I figured it’d be soothing after wrestling with the damn thing all day yesterday) while I’m still trying to figure out what I want to do.

I actually ended up installing wordpress for a THIRD time so that I have somewhere to play with things.

But the migraine didn’t come until I started playing with photoshop. I have an image that I’m happy with, all I wanted was rounded edges. It sounds like something that should be fairly easy, right?

Well, if anyone else knows how to do it let me know because technologically 2006 started on a crappy ass note for me.

So, how was your first day of 2006?

Bear with Me

Making changes to the blog today so service may be intermittent.

UPDATE: Managed to update to Wordpress 2.0 but theme changing turned out to be much more complicated than I’d anticipated. I think we’ll all be enjoying the nice soothing blue for awhile while I work on creating my new theme.

Stupid computer

Thursday, November 10th, 2005

Actually, it’s more like stupid internet connection.

It’s the internet connection that wasn’t. For the last few days I’ve been able to visit one page before it dies and even that is SUPER slow.

This morning got up early to shower just in case they shut off the water again. I can deal with them turning off the hot water, but sometime yesterday afternoon, and into the early evening they shut off the cold water too. I REALLY can’t handle having no water at all. It really emphasizes how often I actually wash my hands when I can’t do it.

But, in my unwashed, no internet and cranky state yesterday, I managed twelve pages of a new story. And they’re twelve pages of doing no research. Since he’s a parachute jumper (see I don’t even know what to call him) I have a lot of, he pulled the thing that did the other thing.

I realized I was kind of freaking about nothing. The Amber Heat thing only has to be 5,000-12,000 words and I think the VP project was 25,000-40,000 (I think) which even if I wrote max on both only leaves me 2,000 words above NaNo pace and I’ve got 2 months to work.

Granted, I’ve got to write and edit, but with projects that short I shouldn’t have to edit THAT much - (and that could have just been the kiss of death for me. I’m knocking on wood now).

I got spammed

Monday, October 10th, 2005

Now, I know that i’m very lucky that I haven’t gotten spammed before now. I realize I am very late coming to the spamming bandwagon. I got spammed 10 times since last night.

Luckily for me, Wordpress is smart enough to catch the spammers (fingers crossed that it continues).

But here’s the thing. What’s the point of Spam (and actually this question can pertain to the spam you get via the internet or the stuff in a can).

I mean I got spammed about saucepans, quilting and pastry cream.

I didn’t even rate penis lengthening spam!!! I got boring spam.

And for some reason, I have kick ass spam filtering. I never get it though my email (well, actually I have been lately because I’ve been “training” my new computer, but it’s probably ready to be on it’s own now). And the only spam that gets through the training filter is religious crap.

Maybe I do want to improve my sex life! Maybe I do want a bigger penis!

But, no, I get freaking pastry cream!! Am I supposed to think, you know, pastry cream doessound good right about now?

Plus, they spammed really OLD entries.

Or tried to anyway.

Ha!!

Not only can I conquer hot water, I’ve got spam licked, too!!

Here’s a tip

Tuesday, June 28th, 2005

Reading closely doesn’t necessarily mean sitting close to the computer screen. After getting through my edits yesterday I could barely sit up straight.

But, I finished my read through, gotta compose my Errata (I already did so on paper, now I have to type it up) and then this bad boy is ready to go!! Next step, reviewers.

In good news, I awoke to my new N this morning!! The hardest part about putting the sucker on was opening the packaging. I wish I had the digital camera so I could take a picture of the N packaging but the Hubsters got it with him in CT.

First, it was in one of thos impossible to get into bubble wrap bags, in a box padded with foam, wrapped in a bubble wrap bag. It was a N, a laptop N. It could’ve fit in a small envelope.

But it’s back and I can type normally again. Good since I’ve got to start writing again now.

I was planning an introspective post for this morning, but well, N excitement won out so check back tomorrow for the other stuff.

Also, check out Rolling Stones 500 Greatest Songs because I don’t want to be the only one procrastinating! Let me know what you think!

New Blog - Day 2

Sunday, June 19th, 2005

Now that I’ve got this whole wordpress thing worked out, I’m kind of enjoying it a lot.
Though, continue to watch for changes. I’ll probably keep adding (and taking away) just because I can.

In other news, we went to a soccer game last night. DC United vs New England Revolution. We won!! 2-0 both goals scored in the 11th minute. There were real live soccer hooligans and even a real live soccer brawl in the stands near us! What more could a girl ask for?

I really have to get to my edits, but I signed up for a BIAW this week. My goal is a 30 page short story but I have no idea what I want to write about. I think I’ll have to use some time today to explore some publishers and see what they’re looking for. I have this urge to write a cowboy story, even though I know nothing about cowboys and have never even been on a horse!

Ah well, make sure to come back tomorrow as I’ll be announcing my contest!
