Bonnie Dee Author Interview

Sunday, March 19th, 2006

Today’s author interview is with fellowLiquid Silver Books and Venus Press author Bonnie Dee.

Bonnie has got some beautiful covers, and she was kind enough to answer some questions.

What’s the strangest character name you’ve ever come up with (either used or abandoned for something more reasonable)?
This name was just a temporary placeholder until I could think of my bad guy’s name, but it was Blim Blam. And the good guy was Captain Hoorah. Is that strange enough for you?
Actually I’m terrible at name choosing. For minor character names I’ll open the phone book at random and pick a first and last name (then promptly forget it later and have to look back through the manuscript to find it when that minor character is referred to again.)

If you could have dinner with any author either living or dead, what would you eat (oh and who would you eat with)?
If I was with someone famous, I know I’d be too nervous to eat. Red Lobster is probably a bad choice ‘cause seafood can tend to be messy, but, yeah, crab alfredo at Red Lobster sounds good right now. And, of course, I’d be eating with my good buddy Stephen King, who I feel like I know as well as a member of my family due to his wonderful, folksy writing style.[Emma’s note: And his ability to scare the crap out of me.]

What do you prefer, Law & Order, Law & Order: SVU or Law & Order:Criminal Intent?
Have to admit I’ve never—that’s NEVER—watched any of them. At all. Period. No C.S.I. either. Nope. No crime procedurals and no doctor shows. So, instead I’ll pick The Sopranos, Lost, or one of my cheesy, guilty pleasure WB shows like One Tree Hill or Everwood.

If you were a Bond Girl what would you want your name to be?
I TOLD you I’m bad with names. Really not clever at all. How about Chestee Blonde?[Emma’s note: I like it.]

Do you have any tattoo’s? If not, where would you get one and what would you get?
I don’t. I tried to talk my husband into getting tats a couple of years ago, just small, tasteful ones, but he’s not the adventurous sort. What I like are Celtic knots or other ornamental decorations. Maybe not on the biceps since your arm is on display all the time. Maybe on my lower back just above my ass crack. Does that sound good?

Check out some of Bonnie’s books today.

Robin Danner Author Interview

Sunday, March 5th, 2006

Today’s interview is with LSB author Robin Danner. Robin Danner puts the “R” in Regency - isn’t that a great tagline?

Her latest book is the Vixens & Virgins Anthology. You can check out all of her releases here.

If you were a Bond Girl what would you want your name to be?
Tia Shagmore. (Okay, so I had to cheat and use a name generator because I’ve never watched a Bond film, but it fits.)

What’s your favorite animal at the Zoo?
I’ve always enjoyed the giraffes and peacocks.

Do you have any tattoo’s? If not, where would you get one and what would you get? I have a purple and yellow rose on my left ankle. At RT this year, I’m getting a Triskel knot on my right shoulder.

Can you roll your tongue? Touch your tongue to your nose? Do any other bizarre tricks with your body?
Indeed I can roll my tongue. Do you know this trait is genetic? I can also touch my tongue to my nose. So attractive, right? I’m double jointed in my two middle fingers and I can move my little toes directly to the side without moving any other toes. I think that’s about it for my strange bodily functions.

If you were stuck in the dark with no flashlight( and couldn’t have sex) what would you do? Sleep! With two jobs and a writing career, I never get to close my eyes.

Stealing from James Lipton (Inside the Actors Studio), what’s your favorite word? Your least favorite?
My favorite word has always been “irrevocably”. I love the way it sounds. As for least favorite, it has to be “seamen”. I had to read the word aloud in ninth grade and you can imagine the reaction of my classmates. I looked at them and said, “It means sailors, ya’ll!”

You can check out Robin’s website here.

Darragha Foster Author Interview

Sunday, February 26th, 2006

Today’s author is another fellow LSB author, Darragha Foster. Her book, The Orca King has been on my TBR pile for what seems like ever. Unfortunately I’ve only had a chance to peek at it. And I’m certainly not giving away any secrets now!

What do you prefer, Law & Order, Law & Order: SVU or Law & Order: Criminal Intent?
SVU. I lust after Munch and Finn.

If you could only watch one movie again for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Conan the Barbarian. I’d just close my eyes and listen to Basil Poledoris’ FABULOUS score.

If you were a Bond Girl what would you want your name to be?
“Whip” or “Stilletto”

What’s your favorite animal at the Zoo?
Butterfly exhibits [Emma’s note: I’m actually terrified of butterflies so we won’t be going to the zoo together any time soon. Although I’m thinking the answer should be whales!

Do you have any tattoo’s? If not, where would you get one and what would you get?
Not yet. My daughter and I are going to get matching tattoos on the back of our heads, base of the skull. Eye of Horus (Egyptian Eye).

Can you roll your tongue? Touch your tongue to your nose? Do any other tricks with your body?
I can roll my tongue. I can wiggle my nostrils. I can whistle through a pinpoint hole in the roof of my mouth.

If you were stuck in the dark, didn’t have a flashlight and couldn’t have sex, what would you do?
I don’t need light to type. :) Touch typing is my friend.

Stealing from James Lipton (Inside the Actors Studio), what’s your favorite word? Your least favorite?
I’m fond of the phrase, “holy smut.” I do not use the word ‘Hate’.

Do you play an instrument? Well? What and for how long?
Piano and flute. years. neither very well. i can sing, however! i have big lungs like “Meat Loaf.”

If you could win an Olympic medal what sport would it be in?
Archery.

If you were a tree, what kind would you be? What kind of flower?
I would be a sacred oak if a tree and wisteria if a flower.

Thanks for sharing with us, Darragha!!

Vanessa Hart Author Interview

Sunday, February 19th, 2006

Vanessa Hart is a fellow Liquid Silver Books Author. Her most recent book is called Heart of a Solider.

I admit that I’ve yet to read the book (unfortunately) becuase I’m killing myself with my current WIP but it is in my TBR pile.

But here’s a blurb:
On her way to her best friend’s wedding, college student Stacy Webber is transported to 1963 West Germany, where the U.S. Army suspect her of being a Soviet spy. She’s put under the guard of Douglas Lee Bradley III.

He worries that his sudden, explosive affair with the woman he’s supposed to be guarding could jeopardize his shot at Officer Candidate School. He doesn’t understand a lot of what Stacy says but is drawn to her imaginative tales of the future. She just wants to get back to her own century and needs Brad to help her. She doesn’t expect to fall in love with him. Once Stacy uncovers the reason for her time-jump, she faces a terrible secret that affects Brad’s life. Will Brad’s future be saved if she sacrifices her own?

Doesn’t that sound awesome? I can’t wait to read it.

Anyway, onto Nessie’s interview…

If you were a crayon, what color would you be?
RED!

What’s your favorite flavor of ice cream?
Kroger Lite Cherry Cordial. If you’ve never tasted it, imagine delicious vanilla with broken up chunks of chocolate-covered cherries mixed in. Yumm-oh!

If you could be any animal, what would it be?
My poodle, Ginger, because she gets everything she wants and has a life of luxury!

If you were a super hero what would your power be? What would you do with it?
I would be a healer. I wouldn’t be able to create immortality or anything God-like, but I could ease suffering. I love that scene in one of the Star Trek movies where Doc gives a lady a pill and she grows a new kidney. I’d like to do that!

Choose a word to describe a sunset. Why did you pick that word?
Flaming. Because the perfect sunset is fiery reds, oranges, and pinks. It’s like a brief flash of Arches National Park or Flaming Gorge.

If someone were to make a movie of your life, who would you want to play you?
Goldie Hawn!

What’s your most embarassing moment?
There are so many! I think it’s the time I accidently posted a private e-mail to a loop in which I complained to someone about my critique partner. I groveled and begged her for forgiveness. She said, “Don’t worry about it. I know we’re friends.” To this day, I love her and feel blessed to have her for a friend. I’m a lot more careful now about e-mails, too!

Is there a skill that you don’t have but wish you did?
Many! I wish I were more athletic. I such a klutz!

If you had to choose from eternal youth, endless wealth and a year’s supply of dog food, which one would you pick?
If I had to re-live my youth on an eternal basis, I’d probably kill myself! *LOL* I have endless wealth already (no, not money. The stuff that matters, like love, family, good friends, free country, comfortable home…). So the only choice left to me is the dog food. Please make it Science Diet Adult!

If you could obliterate the career of one musician, who would it be?
Oh, that’s ugly. There are many musicians of whom I’m not fond, but I’d never wish their careers to be obliterated on my account. I just choose not to listen to them. [Emma’s note: Okay, now I feel bad about this question but in my defense I got it from an icebreaker question website. I didn’t come up with it myself. Honest!]

And here’s her most recent cover:

Kendra Clark - Author interview

Sunday, February 12th, 2006

I posted last week that I was going to start a new feature here at Emma’s Ramblings and that was going to be author interviews.

My first victim-I mean interviewee-is Kendra Clark.

Kendra’s first two releases came out in January. Spirit Warrior is available from Triskillion publishing and Hot Winter Nights is in the Winter Wishes Anthology. She’s got a March release from WCPTorrid Kiss Me Sweetly as well as a Changling Hot Flash coming soon. Her Torrid Twisted Tale Sleeping With Beauty comes out in August.

Kendra also happens to be my CP, which means she’s got excellent taste in friends. And it also means I can say that I’ve read ALL of her work. She’s got a really unique voice and her stories are not your usual run of the mill stories.

And I did mention that they questions might not have anything to do with writing, right?

What’s the strangest character name you’ve ever come up with (either
used or abandoned for something more reasonable)?

Omeltechl. To me, Aztec names are difficult to pronounce, however I wanted to keep the names authentic to the culture. I’m branching out though, because I’ve run out of names the readers can halfway pronounce ;)
(Emma’s Note: I beleive I’ve never spelled this this name the same way twice)

If you could spend a week anywhere in the world where would it be AND
what’s the story you’d write about it?

Italy. I’ve always wanted to ride on the gondola while listening to Italian music. I’m sure I’d research more Italian myths, like the Werewolves from there and expand on that. It would give me a more vivid picture of the scenery and buildings.

If you could have dinner with any author either living or dead, what
would you eat (oh and who would you eat with)?

Shakespeare. Without a doubt. What we would eat would depend on whether he’s coming into my time period or I’m traveling into his. I think if he came here, I’d introduce him to Pizza and chocolate. I think he could take something as un-poetic as a pizza and write words of splendor about it.

If you built a pyramid of all the romance novels you own, how tall
would the pyramid be and what book would be on top?

It would be a lot shorter than if you’d asked me 2 months ago. I donated three garbage sacks full to the local library. Now it would be about 5 feet tall. I have several books that would be on top. On the very top would be Dance with the Devil by Sherrilyn Kenyon. It’s the only romance novel I’ve ever read where I cried. Technically, I’m not a crier, but I couldn’t help but tear up as I read Zarek’s journey.

What do you prefer, Law & Order, Law & Order: SVU or Law & Order:
Criminal Intent?

I don’t know. I’ve never seen any of them I think I would probably enjoy Special Victims Unit the most. Sounds more specialized and indebth. (Emma’s Note: I’m sorry, I can’t be friends with Kendra anymore.)

If you could only watch one movie again for the rest of your life, what would it be?
The remake of Sabrina. I like the older version with Hepburn as well, but Julia Ormond can truly show the depths of her emotions through her expressions. Plus I love a Cinderella story.

If you were a Bond Girl what would you want your name to be?
Danielle Defleur. It just sounds cool and reminds me of a flower. HEH!

What’s your favorite animal at the Zoo?
I thought about lying and saying a tiger or another dangerous animal so I could look cool, but I guess I’ll tell the truth. It’s the giraffes. I love their long necks and how they’re just content to eat grass and pretty much do nothing else. I guess I envy that.

Do you have any tattoo’s? If not, where would you get one and what
would you get?

God tattooed me. I have a distinct birthmark on my upper left thigh ;) Seriously, if I were to get a tattoo I would get it on the small of my back, that way if I got tired of the symbol I had chosen, I wouldn’t have to look at it everyday. I would probably get a dagger or something Warrior-like.

Can you roll your tongue? Touch your tongue to your nose? Do any
other bizarre tricks with your body?

YES! I can roll it both ways and curl it up into a loop. I can’t touch the tip of my nose though. I can make a fist and pick up things from the floor with my toes, but other than that, nothing out of the ordinary.
