Thursday 13
Thursday, March 29th, 2007I’ve spent the last few days at Starbucks. I’ve gotten quite a bit of writing done and I’ve finished all of my contest entries (well, the ones that are do this week anyway). So, I present 13 Things I Love About Starbucks!
(Oh, and I don’t know why the Mr. Linky thing put big red X’s after everybody last week. I hope it doesn’t do it today, but…)
|
1. No Internet - well, technically I suppose there is, but I’ve got more will power at Starbucks than I do at home. 2. The day that I switch from hot drinks to cold drinks (that was this week). 3. Comfy chairs 4. You can actually learn quite a bit from sitting at Starbucks for several hours. The other day I sat near 2 med students studying for an osteology exam and learned all about the bones of the head and face. 5. You can’t make this crap up. I’m amazed at some of the stuff people talk about in a coffee shop. It’s like they think they’re alone instead of in a group of people. 6. Caffeine! My fingers fly with a venti non-fat sugar free vanilla latte in my system! 7. Seasonal drinks. Pumpkin spice in the fall, Peppermint white mocha’s around Xmas, and Pomegranite frappicino’s in the summer. 8. People watching. 9. Body language. Starbucks is a good place for first meetings (or friends meeting, but are they really only friends) and it’s fun to watch new people meet. 10. Starbucks music. I don’t know why, but I love it! 11. Blueberry scones. (And actually, their new breakfast sandwiches are quite good, too). 12. You get to be social without actually being social. There’s actually something kind of cool about sitting with a bunch of other people working on their laptops. 13. I get to say things like, “I write sex scenes in Starbucks!” |

Question
Wednesday, March 28th, 2007Is it March that comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb? I seriously can’t remember.
And then April showers bring May Flowers, yes?
Whatever, spring was definitely in the air yesterday! It was 75 degrees. I took a walk with my flip flops on (and you know more clothes)!!
The rhodedendron in my front yard is on the verge of blooming.
And yesterday, after sitting outside for awhile, my eyes started burning from allergies and I got bitten by bugs.
Ah spring.
I’m off…
Tuesday, March 27th, 2007to Starbucks.
I’m going to write, judge contest entries, drink coffee and eat a blueberry scone (hopefully).
I’ll make myself update when I get hom as a way to be accountable.
But it’s such a lovely day outside. A robin is chilling outside my window and the bunny has returned to my backyard. I could do something out…
No, must write!! Must judge. Off to Starbucks where time and nice days have no meaning!
Spring Cleaning
Monday, March 26th, 2007That’s what I spent all day yesterday doing. My house now sparkles (well, pretty much).
II reogranized my desk and my bookshelfs (doubled up a couple of the rows) and now have tons of room left. Book shopping anyone?
I dusted and vacuumed (okay, the hubster vacuumed) and…well, all the rest of that cleaning stuff.
And then last night we watched Planet Earth on Discovery Channel. Anyone else? Well, if you missed last night, I believe there are 10 nights left.
This week, I plan on lots of writing at my clean new desk and I HAVE to finish up my contest judging (nothing like a deadline to finally get me moving).
What do you have planned for the week? Do anything fun this weekend?
*Edited to add: I’ve been getting about half the number of emails as usual the past few days, which makes me think my email might be having issues. If you’ve emailed me and not heard back I’m not ignoring you and I’m working on the problem!
Screw Diamonds…
Saturday, March 24th, 2007Shoes are a girls best friend!
Actual conversation yesterday:
Me (to Hubby): You love me, right?
Hubby: How much did you spend?
Me: Uh, less thatn $100 (I like to use the less than approach).
Hubby: On what?
Me: Shoes.
Hubby: *long suffering sigh*
But, I’m the proud owner of two adorable (and totally impractical) new pairs of shoes:

Oh, and just FYI, I’d wager that it’s actually scientifically impossible to walk into DSW Shoe Warehouse and NOT buy shoes.
So, how many pairs of shoes is too many for a 4 day cruise? A 5 day conference?
Actually writing
Friday, March 23rd, 2007Wow, that T13 post yesterday was quite busy. I guess maybe it is worth jumping on the bandwagon.
I think, you know, since I am a writer and all, I’d like to start actually blogging about writing (wow, I just spelled writing wrong).
So, I’ll ask you, my blog buddies, are there any particular writing related topics you’d like to read about?
I don’t know if I’m actually organized to do something like do it the same day every week, but I could probably manage semi-regularly.
Speaking of writing, I have been writing. And in first person no less. It’s…hard. This story definitely wants to be told in first person. My heroine is a witch.
So it’s kind of easy to get into her voice, but I’m really ingrained with writing in “she’s” instead of “I’s”.
And I haven’t yet decided if I’ll switch into his POV or not. So far I don’t want to but…we’ll, I guess we’ll see.
Do you switch back and forth between 1st and 3rd person? Which do you prefer? Which do you prefer reading?
(Personally, for full length especially I like 3rd, but for something relatively short I don’t mind 1st, and this is going to be around 15K).

I’m late…I’m late…
Wednesday, March 21st, 2007OK, so I got up at a reasonable hour this morning. And I took a shower, but then the bed looked so cozy there and I couldn’t help myself. I laid back down and bundled myself up.
An hour and a half later I woke up again.
Then I putzed with some Easter decorations I’m painting (and should actually finish before, ya know, Easter).
Long story short, it’s 11:30 and I’m just now sitting down to the ‘puter.
I’ve got a good 75 emails to read (or delete without reading) and that’s not even counting g-mail. Then I’ve gotta check in with PI and RWAOL and RD, and then I have to read blogs…
Writing will be coming late today, damn it.
But man that nap this morning was nice…
Cold
Tuesday, March 20th, 2007So, like I mentioned yesterday, Sunday we got up early (well, early for a city) and went to the opera with the hubsters parents. Afterwards we went to dinner (yummy greek food) and then walked around a bit before heading home.
The train had some issues and we finally got home at around 10.
We turned on the TV to relax a little bit for the evening, and realized it was pretty cold so got in bed.
Yesterday morning, the hubsters alarm went off. I heard it but went right back to sleep not waking up until he was getting back in bed.
Me: What are you doing?
Him: We have no hot water. Or heat.
Great!
Before he got back into bed (the only warm spot in the house) he called the oil heat guys. They called back shortly and were there within the hour.
Where they loaded 497 gallons of oil into our 500 gallon tank.
Uh, yeah, no wonder it was freaking cold!!!
Apparently they decided that since our tank was so big (apparently most in our neighborhood only have 250 gallon tanks) they didn’t need to come that often. Or apparently, never.
But I’m warm again now and ready for another day or writing. Or procrastinating. Probably procastinating.
You?
