More Bahamas

Friday, January 19th, 2007

So, most people were there to relax for the weekend, but I think the hubster and I must have walked every inch of the resort several times. Well, when we weren’t swimming, or water sliding, or lazing on the lazy river.

They had a casino. I don’t know who would spend the day in a casino when they were in paradise, but whatever floats your boat. One of the hubsters co-workers was up QUITE a bit last I heard.

My favorite part of the casino were the Chihuly glass sculptures. The moon.

And the sun.

Saturday and Sunday were pretty windy and the beaches were closed. The waves were pretty intense - no way would I have even tried to go in the water! Still, the lifeguards were out and it makes a pretty picture.

With some of the tunnels of aquariums (aquaria?) you could see the sun. I thought this picture was fun.

One more day of pictures coming up…

Bahamas - Fish!

Thursday, January 18th, 2007

Yesterday I promised fish pictures and today I’m going to deliver.

There were tons of aquariums and ponds with fish and sharks and turtles and rays and…well, that’s all the sea life I can think of.

Except lobsters!

And eels.

Anyway, they had this one cool HUGE aquarium. It’s the one we could see from our room (the blue water in the night picture from yesterday’s post). It was right off the lobby (downstairs from the lobby technically) and had a fancy restaurant (we ate there - I had cornish game hen, hubster had rack of lamb - it was a far cry from the spagetti with jarred sauce that we’re used to).

Anyway, they also had this thing called “The Dig.” In a Disney-ish way, it was supposed to be a walk through the excavation of the lost city of Atlantis and along the way you saw more fish and stuff. (They had guided tours and we were there with one group when someone asked if it was the real Atlantis. Had I been the tour guide I totally would have said yes).

It was very cool.

And their main attraction was Zeus, a 12 foot wide baby Manta Ray.

They say that he could grow to have a 30 foot wing span (and the people we know who went on the trip last year said he had about doubled in size). Still, he’s already outgrowing his tank!

As I mentioned yesterday, they also had several shark tanks. Including Hammerheads.

And this guy was one of my favorites. He sat there just kind of bobbing in the water, opening and closing his mouth. I think if I were a fish, I’d be a grouper.

More to come tomorrow, too…

Bahamas (complete with photos)

I took a lot of pics - over 200 - and that’s not even counting the hubsters camera. And I have a tendency to come home with tons of pictures, but very few actually featuring people, lol.

Still, I’m going to share…

We left on Friday evening. I don’t know if I mentioned this, but we went with the hubsters work, so it was nice not really having to worry about anything. They did all the worrying for us.

Anyway, we got to the hotel (on Paradise Island, a bridge away from Nassau) at around 9:30. The resort was pretty huge, and this was the view from our room that night.

The next morning, we woke up to this view.

The night before we hadn’t even known there were islands there!

There was tons of stuff to do at the resort. There was a lagoon with “water sports” like kayaking, and water bikes and snorkeling.

There were also lots of water slides. I’m not much of a water slide person, but there was one cool one. You rode on a tube inside the pyramid and then came out the bottom into an enclosed glass tube through the shark tank!

And this place has more aquariums than I’ve ever seen! Check back tomorrow for fishy pictures!

I’m back!

Tuesday, January 16th, 2007

My vacation must have affected me more than I thought, I had a bit of trouble remembering how to write my blog, lol.

Anyway, I’m back. Had a fabulous time and will share with you over the next few days. One of the things I hope to accomplish today is to download all my phots, though judging by the amount of email I’m getting right now, I may spend my entire day answering emails (my mail program has been going for a few minutes now - 56 in my mail inbox, I’m afraid to look at the other inboxes).

Anyway, I’ll probably spend the next few days telling you about my trip, but I’ll just end now saying that it was 80 degrees the whole time and I came back a bit pinker than usual.

So, what’d I miss around here? Anything exciting happen this weekend?

Still tropical…

If anyone wants to post guesses as to what I’m doing right now, feel free. I do plan on having some giveaways when I get back.

I could be snorkling, or lounging by the beach, or lounging by a pool, or sightseeing…

Here’s all the cool stuff I could be doing at Atlantis.

This is where I am today

Apparently when Oprah comes here, she stays in that bridge area, which is actually a suite. Or so I heard on the Travel Channel.

Leaving…

on a jet plane.

But *sigh* I’ll be back on Monday.

Yep, I’ll be spending the next 3 days (and nights) in Paradise. I’m going to the Bahamas!!

I’ll think of you all while I’m soaking up the sun. I promise!

This time I’m leaving the laptop behind, too. No internet for 3 whole days. It might kill me.

I’ll be back with plenty of pictures next week though (hopefully). Hope everyone enjoys their long weekend!

Ambrosia

So the hubster came home from work last night and wanted to go to Costco. We only needed one thing, and we’re fong to be gone for the weekend, so I decided it could wait.

But if we went to Costco we’d eat there (yes, we’re big spenders) and neither one of us was really in the mood to cook.

But I did want to get some travel sized stuff from Bath and Body Works, so we decided to go to the mall. And since there just happens to be a TGI Friday’s attached to the mall, we ate dinner there.

And that’s where I tasted heaven.

Fried green beans.

I don’t know what genious thought of taking a previously healthy food and making it so one bite has enough fried greasyness in it to kill you, but he should be given a medal or something.

And while I know they won’t taste nearly as ogod as they were “fresh” I have some leftover for my lunch today.

Have you eaten anything horribly bad for you recently? What’s your favorite splurge food?

Writing space

Hee hee. I got up this morning, puttered around a bit and realized I was getting a bad headache. So I went back to bed!

Now it’s almost lunchtime but I’m waiting for my coffee to perk.

Anyway, I’m writing this on the laptop that’s currently perched on the coffee table while I sit on the couch. I love my desk, I really do, but the past few days it’s been really cold in my little corner.

Plus, I may have mentioned before, my desk is by the scary window. It’s the window that I’m sure hasn’t been opened in years. It’s where the air conditioner. First of all, there is aboslutly no seal around the window. I can stand on the other side of the room and feel the draft. Secondly, because there’s no seal, a lot of creepy crawlies get it.

I don’t do creepy crawlies.

Anyway, when it started to get cold, I went to the home depot and invested in that plastic sheeting you put over windows and then shrink wrap with a hair dryer. My thoughts were, not only would this keep the draft down, it’d also catch the creepy-crawlies.

We plastic-ed over the whole shebang, window, air conditioner, blinds, everything.

Well, it does somewhat keep the draft down (though last night I could still feel it across the room, even through the plastic). You should see the way the blind moves when the wind blows proving how much the window sucks in the first place.

As to the creepie crawlies, well, it’s kind of created a fishbowl for them to live in. They get in, but then can’t get out. It’s good they can’t get out onto my desk (I had a vew “incidents” before the plastic) but they just sit inside the plastic and taunt me.

There’s a particularly large beetle-ish type thing (I don’t know what it is and we get A LOT of them) in there now taunting me. He jumps agains the blind making noise, or he just sits just out of my line of vision moving every once in awhile so I catch him out of the corner of my eye and he scares me.

Damn bug.

So rather than sitting at my nice desk, I’m sitting on the floor using my coffee table as a desk.

*sigh*

What’s your writing space like?

Pimping PI & Writing

Yesterday was my first full official day as Passionate Ink President.

It’s hard.

Still, we’ve got a great board this year, even if we are all new and are still struggling to learn what we’re supposed to be doing.

Also, yesterday I re-wrote the beginning of a novella I’ve been working on. It makes it much better now, I change it from a “first meet” to a kind of a reunion story and I feel much more comfortable with it. Still, there’s something off about it and I can’t tell what.

I’d love to submit this story by the end of the month, but…

I’m having this odd problem where I can see the scene perfectly in my brain, can even “write” it in my head, but what’s coming out of my fingers is - not so good.

Ah well, I’d still love to finish it before the end of the week. Have I mentioned I’m going to the Bahama’s this weekend? Yeah, I think I have.

How’s the writing going for everyone else?
