Halloween decorations

Sarah’s comment yesterday about the neighborhood that tries to outdo one another in terms of decorations made me realize I haven’t told you about the house in my neighborhood yet!

I haven’t taken a picture yet, but I’ll have to before Halloween is over.

And, I’d just like to say that these decorations have been up since early September.

First of all there are 9 - yes NINE big blow up thingies - there’s Skeleton Homer (Simpson), a ghost or two, a cat, one of those snow globe ones, I think a Pooh bear. There’s a giant blow up man eating purple tarantula on the roof of the house.

Nine of them!

Now, a normal person may think this would be enough, overkill even, but no.

There are also lights - orange and purple - on every available surface. More scarecrows than birds in the neighborhood practically. As for pumpkins…well, I’m wondering if they have their own pumpkin patch in the backyard or something.

It’s impossible not to stop and stare at the house. And yet, even as I make fun, I’m anxiously awaiting other holidays…will they have a giant blow up turkey? What about Xmas? Will they have their own snow making machine?

They’re putting my .89 cent plastic pumpkins to shame. Shame I say!!

*Sigh*

Do you do a lot of decorating for the holidays? What’s your favorite? As for me, I’ve already told you about my favorite, so I’ll just direct you to last years Jimbo post.

Ah, I do enjoy Christmas, despite the consumer frenzy attached to it, and I do decorate the inside of the house. (No point in decorating the outside because none of our neighbors live close enough to see it.) My favorite thing is a majestically full tree blazing with multi-colored lights and lots of handmade decorations. I love lights!

But I don’t get to decorate until I get the farm books done. :( That’s my impetus for keeping up with them during the year, but somehow I never quite get around to it. So that’s what I’ll be doing on December 1st. :D

We decorated the front porch with Halloween stuff strictly for the kids (ok, and well, for me too!) cos we live in the sticks so we aren’t impressing anyone but ourselves! LOL

Nine blow up thingys? That’s a lot! Please take a picture. :)

Don’t usually decorate for Halloween, but I do put fall type stuff up. I also go all out for Christmas!!!

I would LOVE to see a pic of that house! We have a lot like them where I live now. You can’t help but turn and stare!

    With Love,
    Tara M.

We used to get Halloween crazy in our neighborhood, but the two families who used to decorate as well moved, and I am self-conscious about putting gravestones in my front yard if no one else is going to…

I’m kind of a seasonal decorator. I have candy dishes for each holiday and a different door hanger too. Since we did our wedding with all silk sunflowers and vines, I have a bunch of stuff out right now that we stored in the basement and never took apart. But I go nuts in the house for Christmas… I’m a village collector and it overflows from the top of the entertainment center to the end tables and everything. :)

I’m a bit of a scrooge when it comes to decorating. I hate it. Christmas is the only holiday where I do decorate, but the most I put outside my home was a line of candy cane’s along either side of the walk way and a snoman wreath on the door.

Of course, after Christmas, my kids got it into their heads to dig out the candycanes from the basement closet and use them as swords. So the red ribbon has unraveled and I have to go back to the store and buy more.

    Bah humbug! :)

Well, my neighborhood has the opposite problem. No one decorates at all. Maybe that’s a good thing because then my orange candle looks downright festive!

And I loooooove Christmas. Love it. DH and I argue each year cause I like to get the tree the day after Turkey Day.

Too funny! I can’t wait to see the pic! We haven’t done any decorating this year, besides putting two big pumpkins on our porch. We’re losers this year. But it’s our goal to someday be “those” peole who do cool Halloween decorations!
