Naked dudes!

Sunday, October 1st, 2006

Well, my day yesterday was more exciting than any lousy trip to the city!

It started out nicely, we drove to the south shore, an amazingly short drive actually (or about 50 minutes. From what I can tell, it takes 50 minutes to get anywhere). Probably due to the fact that it was a farily nice, but chilly day. Not many people wanted to spend it at the beach.

We went to Fire Island National Seashore, which is a stretch of land no wider than 3 football fields wide (and I’d say that’s being generous). Now I understand why they’re so worried about coastal erosion! Although I have to say, it was the coolest sea shells I’ve ever seen. Seriously, some of them were HUGE.

Anyway, there were a few people out and about, but not a ton. We made our way to the waters edge and began walking down the beach. There were a fair number of people sitting right near the parking lot, and then a whole bunch more further down the beach, with just a smattering between the two.

So we were walking, I admit that most of my attention was focused down as I was watching shells and my feet (I have a TON of trouble walking in sand, always have). We paused to look at something interesting in the sand and then I looked up ahead of me on the beach.

Me to hubster: Hey, they way the light is hitting that guy, doesn’t he look naked?
Hubster: Yeah, he does.

We walk a bit further. This time when I look up, a full moon is shining right at me in the middle of the day!

Me to hubster: Wait, that guy is naked?

We looked around, and realized there were quite a few more naked people! We’d accidentally stumbled onto a naked beach!

Like the mature people we were, we sat on the sand (facing the ocean) giggling for a little while. Okay, and we waited to see what some other people walking down the beach would do. They walked on like nothing was out of the ordinary. Maybe I’ve just led a sheltered life.

We decided to move on as there were stairs and a walkway leading back to the road in the middle of the naked beach. The hubster practically ran. I was very careful to keep my eyes between nose and nipple height. I didn’t want to make eye contact, nor look any lower.

When we finally made it back to the road, we saw the following sign. Some warning down on the beach would have been nice. Although I can’t say it would have stopped me, it just would have been nice to be prepared.

The hubster took a deep breath and said, “Wow, that was a lot of naked dudes.”

We didn’t go to the Hamptons. Opted for a trip to Ikea instead after the fun of the naked dudes.

What’d you do this weekend? See any naked people?
