“Quite” soggy day

Saturday, September 2nd, 2006

I’m a little wet here in New York and will be for the rest of the day it seems. I’m not really complaining as I know I’m not the only one stuck in the rain.

BUT…I went to the Weather Channel website this morning, like I do every morning. I was greated with the headline (copied and pasted directly from their website), “Hurricane John made landfall on the southern Baja Peninsula; meanwhile the Atlantic Basin is now quite.”

Quite what?

Now, I really should be the last person lecturing about proofreading on my blog - I admit, I don’t proofread my blog - too me, that’s not the point of it, and I’m okay with that. I can’t spell, my fingers don’t always do what my brain wants them to do, my blog is filled with mistakes.

I fully admit that my blog stats show that people regularly find my blog when they’re searching for things and spell them wrong (’cause I’ve spelled it wrong, too).

But I’m not the weather channel. I would assume that my piddly ass stats don’t even compare to theirs. I would hope they could at least hire a proofreader because I assume the mid atlantic is “quiet.”

Which brings me to my next rant, the slides before movies at the movie theater. OMG, the people that create those aren’t even literate!!

Just before we moved we went to the movies and in the 10 minute or so circuit of slides I would say half of them had some kind of error! HALF!!!

And am I the first one whose noticed? I wanted to go complain to management but the hubster convinced me not to.

Some of them used the totally wrong word, commas were in crazy places and one of them had the most bizarre use of punctuation I’ve ever seen! I don’t remember it exactly but it was something like: johnny Depp based his performance of Captain jack sparrow on rolling stones Guitarist keith Richards.

I certainly don’t consider myself a grammer Nazi, but come on!!

Anyone else have any stories to share about really bad proofreading?
