Author Interviews - Sherrill Quinn & Emma Wildes

Sunday, April 2nd, 2006

Today is going to start a month of Sunday’s featuring the Spring Fling Authors!

First up is Sherrill Quinn. Sherrill writes for WCPT, LSB and NCP. I think Sherrill should win the award for best title EVER for her story in Spring Flings, Chocolate Covered Werewolves.

Onto Sherrill’s questions -

Have you ever broken any bones? Has surgery? Had to spend the
night in the hospital?

No. Yes–had to have extra bone growth removed from my right big toe. No.

Describe your perfect date.
With a man. Any man. At this stage, I’m not too picky. Seriously, a nice dinner where we can talk and get to know each other or, if we’re past the “get to know you stage”, a quiet place where we can have good food and enjoy each other’s company. I’m easy. Not cheap, but easy.

What’s the very first memory you have?
I remember walking up the road to go to half-day kindergarten, and crying the whole time. What can I say? I was my mama’s baby.

If you could have any job in the world, other than author, what would it be?
Boy, that’s hard. I’ve been around long enough to have tried a few things. *G* Is there a job where you can work about 20 hours a week but be paid for 40? That’s what I want. Actually, how about a job where I work about 10 hours a week but get paid for 40? My answer for this is… I don’t have an answer. I just spent 20 years building a career in Human Resources, culminating in a position as Vice President for nearly four years. I’m on my second career as an author. If I couldn’t do this, I’d probably go back to H.R.

What are your three favorite movies and why? Oh, man, just three?!? Okay, here they are, in no particular order.
Waking Ned Devine–a small Irish village who all agree to be dishonest in order to split the lottery winnings of a dead man. It’s funny, and poignant, and Ireland (well, the Isle of Mann).

Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein–it’s funny and has Dracula, the Wolfman, the Frankenstein Monster and, at the very end, Vincent Price (well, his voice, anyway) as the Invisible Man. What’s not to love?

French Kiss–Kevin Kline makes the yummiest, scruffiest French guy!

Our next Author up is Emma Wildes. Not only does she have an awesome name, she also writes for WCPT, Venus Press and several other publishers (she’s very prolific). AND as an added bonus, her book Hostage Moon is the WCPT Hot Title this month!

Emma’s story in Spring Flings is The Wicked Wager.

What’s the strangest character name you’ve ever come up with (either used or abandoned for something more reasonable)?
Well, maybe El Diablo, who is a master spy in my regular historical romance, Seek Roses in December, out from LionHearted Publishing this year. This deadly French espionage agent doesn’t turn out to be quite what you’d think… That, or Satan, the devilishly attractive pirate that appears in Satan’s Slave, a short story in the Summer Sizzler’s anthology.

If you could spend a week anywhere in the world where would it be AND what’s the story you’d write about it?
The coast of Wales is gorgeous, remote, and I’d love to rent a cottage there and write about the wonderful people and their unique surroundings. My husband and I visited about ten years ago and we were both captivated. I also love Yorkshire, same thing.

If you could have dinner with any author either living or dead, what would you eat (oh and who would you eat with)?
Hands down, my favorite, Mary Stewart. Hmm…menu, well, she’s Brit, so fish and chips would be lovely with me. Lots of malt vinegar. Yum.

If you built a pyramid of all the romance novels you own, how tall would the pyramid be and what book would be on top?
Ha…ask my husband, who spends his spare time building bookcases…very tall, with Kimberly Cates’ historical, Crown of Dreams, on top.

What do you prefer, Law & Order, Law & Order: SVU or Law & Order: Criminal Intent?
Oh…well, that one I can’t answer. I don’t watch television much. If I am tired in the evening, hubby might pop in a DVD, but I rarely watch more than a few minutes. I do like Mystery on PBS, now and then. We frequently get asked when guests visit…where is the television? Truth is, I don’t have one downstairs at all (kids do in their rooms, let’s not get nuts here!) and hubby gets a small one upstairs in the family room. If I didn’t have one at all, I wouldn’t notice. This may not come as a surprise, but I prefer to read!

Don’t forget to check out Spring Flings, and Sherrill and Emma’s other releases!
