Bonnie Dee Author Interview

Sunday, March 19th, 2006

Today’s author interview is with fellowLiquid Silver Books and Venus Press author Bonnie Dee.

Bonnie has got some beautiful covers, and she was kind enough to answer some questions.

What’s the strangest character name you’ve ever come up with (either used or abandoned for something more reasonable)?
This name was just a temporary placeholder until I could think of my bad guy’s name, but it was Blim Blam. And the good guy was Captain Hoorah. Is that strange enough for you?
Actually I’m terrible at name choosing. For minor character names I’ll open the phone book at random and pick a first and last name (then promptly forget it later and have to look back through the manuscript to find it when that minor character is referred to again.)

If you could have dinner with any author either living or dead, what would you eat (oh and who would you eat with)?
If I was with someone famous, I know I’d be too nervous to eat. Red Lobster is probably a bad choice ‘cause seafood can tend to be messy, but, yeah, crab alfredo at Red Lobster sounds good right now. And, of course, I’d be eating with my good buddy Stephen King, who I feel like I know as well as a member of my family due to his wonderful, folksy writing style.[Emma’s note: And his ability to scare the crap out of me.]

What do you prefer, Law & Order, Law & Order: SVU or Law & Order:Criminal Intent?
Have to admit I’ve never—that’s NEVER—watched any of them. At all. Period. No C.S.I. either. Nope. No crime procedurals and no doctor shows. So, instead I’ll pick The Sopranos, Lost, or one of my cheesy, guilty pleasure WB shows like One Tree Hill or Everwood.

If you were a Bond Girl what would you want your name to be?
I TOLD you I’m bad with names. Really not clever at all. How about Chestee Blonde?[Emma’s note: I like it.]

Do you have any tattoo’s? If not, where would you get one and what would you get?
I don’t. I tried to talk my husband into getting tats a couple of years ago, just small, tasteful ones, but he’s not the adventurous sort. What I like are Celtic knots or other ornamental decorations. Maybe not on the biceps since your arm is on display all the time. Maybe on my lower back just above my ass crack. Does that sound good?

Check out some of Bonnie’s books today.

Saturday Fun

Saturday, March 18th, 2006

I’m off to the National Aquarium in Baltimore today then to hang out in the Inner Harbor.

Yes, I’ve lived here for 2 years and am finally making it there. To be fair, I have been there before - years ago - in high school.

Anyway I’m excited and I hope to take some cool pictures. I got my fancy new digital camera for Xmas and haven’t used it nearly enough.

Tomorrow is another author interview day so make sure you come back and check it out. And I think I might be going out to test drive new cars (eeeek). Top of my list right now is a Toyota Matrix (just ’cause I think it would be fun to make Matrix jokes everytime I go anywhere).

What are you doing this weekend?

Happy St Paddy’s Day.

Friday, March 17th, 2006

I’m pretty sure I have ZERO irish in me, but I’ve always been told that on St. Patrick’s Day everybody has a little bit of irish in them.

I thought I’d try this in recognition of St. Patty’s Day (stolen from April), but apparently I don’t rate high enough for a 4 leaf clover.

Your Luck Quotient: 50%

You have an average luck quotient.
There’s been times when you’ve been extremely lucky… but also times when you’ve been very unlucky.
You probably know that you can make your own luck in life, if you’re open to it.
So listen to your intuition as much as you can. It’s right more often than you might expect.

Oh, and if you want to see something hysterical, click here. This is what my mom sent me this morning. Perhaps that’s why I’m not lucky?

The Princess Bride

Thursday, March 16th, 2006

Thanks for all the night comments yesterday. I wasn’t looking for anything, really, just venting, but Thanks anyway!

Last night the Hubster and I snuggled together and watched The Princess Bride. It’s Totally 80’s week on AMC.

OMG That movies ROCKS!!

I mean, it’s certainly not the first time I’ve seen it (I remember going to see it in the theater, and I think I’m about the same age as Fred Savage so that was kind of a blast to the bast) and I’ve seen it probably thousands of times since.

Yes, I can totally quote the movie too you, and did last night, but it’s been YEARS since I’ve sat down and watched the entire thing from start to finish.

And I was laughing so hard tears were rolling down my face.

I remember after I saw it the first time rushing home to the dictionary to look up the word “inconcievable.”

And Vizzini? OMG, just looking at the little bald guy (Rex from Toy Story) makes me crack up.

Watching it last night, even though I knew what was coming next, and even though I knew it was hysterical, was about as close as I think I could ever get to watching it for the first time again.

I don’t remember if I knew that the Dread Pirate Roberts was Wesley. I don’t know if I really thought he was dead (not just mostly dead).

And I can almost imagine sitting in the darkened theater (with my mom & neighbor friends), thinking that you’re going to see this wedding scene with the woman that doesn’t want to marry the evil Prince and the vicar turns around and says: “Mawwage. Mawwage is what bwings us togever today.”

I admit that I’d absolutely love to know what the filmmakers thought when they were making it. Did they think they were making this kind of farcical fairy tale or did they have any idea what a lasting, fantastic movie it would be?

Anyway, I think the movie was just what I needed to get me out of my funk (of course I probably won’t get much writing done today due to other stuff interfereing, but there’s always tomorrow).

Is there a movie that can cheer you up no matter your mood?

Unsettled

Wednesday, March 15th, 2006

OK, I’m a bit unsettled and I’ve decided this week is going to be a wash on the writing front. There’s just too much “life” getting in the way this week.

Of my 3 closest friends (ok I admit, it’s 3 friends total) ALL of them are going through some life altering thing. (Which I guess since things happen in 3’s leaves me in the clear).

This kind of pales in comparison, but my RWA chapter is having some problems, too. I swear I’ve spent more time on the phone this week than I have in the last few months combined.

Kind of makes me remember why I like my general hermit-ish lifestyle.

Anyway, I really need to do some promo, and I still haven’t updated my website for March, and my newsletter is supposed to come out tomorrow and the prize that I was going to give away isn’t finished yet.

So, I’ve given myself permission to not write this week. Unfortunately it doesn’t really mean that I’ve got any less to do. *Sigh* I just have to keep reminding myself that this is the life I wanted. I wanted to be a writer. I may be good at asking “do you want fries with that,” but that’s not what I want to do.

Hopefully I’ll be ready to write again next Monday (the first day of spring) with vigor. As for this week, I’m just going to do what I gotta do.

You?

What’s next?

Monday, March 13th, 2006

First I want to appologize for not posting an author interview yesterday. My power was out for a good chunk of the day and by the time it came back on it was later in the day and well, I just didn’t post it, but Author Interviews will return next Sunday.

I also wasn’t able to tell you yesterday that I was posting at the SEx blog, nor could I check in there as often as I wanted.

But, I did read Gena Showalter’s Jewel of Atlantis!

It was really good. But does anyone else have this problem? I’m a total Gena Fangirl so when I read her books, I get so excited that I’m reading a Gena Showalter book that I don’t enjoy the book as much as I think I would if I were giving it my full attention. Like I find myself tearing through it so fast that I don’t enjoy it as much as if I read like a normal person.

Anyone?

Just me?

Anyway, I’m free to start something new today. Kind of. I have some edits to do on the 2nd Fate book so I can finish that. And I wrote a Venus Confessional this weekend so I want to edit that and get that sent out, too.

I feel in a really weird space right now where I’m actually amazingly free to do what I want. And damn it, of course I have no idea what I want to do!

So, I’ll probably work on the third Fate Book, maybe see what I’ve got on my computer that needs some TLC and see if I can work it into something good.

What are you working on now? Next?

FREEEEE - I’m FREEEEEEE

Friday, March 10th, 2006

Sent it off yesterday evening. *deep breath* I can breathe again - okay not really because now I’m going to be checking my email obsessively until I hear back.

Why is writing my dream again?

I’d love to claim that this will be a relaxing weekend, but BIL & FIL are staying over night tomorrow night and tonight I’ve got an MRW Board meeting.

Have I mentioned I don’t do well with things hanging over my head?

My board meeting isn’t until 7:00 tonight. I have a normal day ahead of me. I don’t have to think about leaving until after the Hubster gets home. But all day I’ll be checking the clock. This thing will just hang over my head and I won’t be able to get any work done (not othat I should be getting lots of work done - I should take the day off, but the chances are, that’s not going to happen, damn it.

Anyway, I will be taking this weekend off from writing. I’m going to be reading. I got Alison Kent’s Deep Breath in the mail yesterday as part of her viral marketing thing-a-bobber. It’s staring at me. And I have to dig up a historical to read for Angie’s TBR challenge.

But all I really care about now is that I’m free……

Tell me your good news for the weekend!

Almost there…

Thursday, March 9th, 2006

I have edit-brain.

I can’t really think of anything but the damn edits. But, I did manage to write my synopsis last night and barring a major bout of procrastination I should have it finished and sent off today (please let me finish and have it sent off today).

Then, I don’t know what I’m going to do with myself.

How do you celebrate finishing a partiuclarly painful MS?

I think I’ll probably do some reading. Then I have (yay) another story that needs edits, and I want to write something for the Venus confessional (which if I finish early enough today I may be able to do since I already have it started and it’s only 5000 words MAX). Hmmm, that would be great to have 2 subs today!!

Then I could take the entire weekend off reading, catching up with life, cleaning my office.

The end is in sight!!

Can’t blog…editing.
