How many books have you read this year?

I know that’s a bit of a trick question considering it’s only the 4th, but it’s recently come to my attention that I’m a bit concerned by the number of books I read last year.

I’d guess that my reading has decreased exponentially while my writing has increased. But like Stephen King says, “If you don’t read, you can’t write.” Or something to that effect. I’m sure he said it much better than I did because he reads more than I do.

Anyway, Over on my sidebar there, towards the bottom I’m starting a list of books I read this year. I’m already cheating slightly because I read half of The Night Before Christmas last year and just finished it this year. Hope that’s not a sign of things to come.

Oh, and I’m breaking it down into “Books” (which is easier to say that mass-market paperbacks, trade paperbacks, hardbacks, etc), “eBooks” and “ReRead.” My guess is that a lot of the books I read each year I’ve actually read before.

My husband and I have even discussed reading one anothers books (we have total opposite taste) and then trying to discuss them. Then I won’t look like all I read is romance.

So, does anyone else want to join me in making 2006 the year of reading? We can all support each other!! If you don’t want to keep track of the books you read for the world to see you can just do it on paper.

Come on, Read A Lot in 2006!

I’ve noticed the same thing recently and it’s caused me a little trouble too. I’m definately going to make a concerte effort to read more this year and if that means keeping track of what I read, then keeping track it will be.

I read a LOT over Christmas break. A teacher was bragging that she read a book in those two weeks. I read TEN! Felt good, too, since I keep GETTING books and never have time to READ them.

As you are 8 days into your “year of reading”, I want to recommend a book that might be outside your genre of usual preference, but is an excellent read and written in an intriguing style.

The book is titled “The Fall of Lucifer”, written by Wendy Alec.

The book opens with the three Angelic brothers, Lucifer, Michael and Gabriel, in heaven before the fall. Over the course of the book, the essence of the angels is developed. The controversy arises when God created man to be higher than the angels, in that we are created in the image of God. Lucifer was embittered to the point of rebellion.

Various historical events are incorporated, and the plot offers the perspective of an angel into the events. The novel develops the beauty of heaven and the grotesque quality of hell, the depths of evil, and the beauty of grace. It communicates these themes through beautiful imagery and an intriguing plot. The beautiful imagery would make for amazing scenery!

This is a fast read, 300-page novel that is consuming to the imagination and penetrating to the heart. I hope they make this book into a movie. It would be amazing. If you have time, I hope you enjoy it!
