Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire

Saturday, November 19th, 2005

So, I went to see it yesterday. NO SPOILERS if you’ve read the books.

It was, eh. Kind of like the rest of the movies, it’s just about impossible to pick and choose what to put in the movie and what to leave out. Like the rest, it was semi-successful, I thought.

The movie assumes that you’ve read the book, but then if you have read the book then you know that a lot of stuff is missing.

I loved the interaction between Harry, Ron and Hermione in this movie. It’s hilariously teenage angst-y. The whole Yule ball thing was realy funny, and the movie had lots of laugh out loud moments - which is saying a lot for me because I don’t laugh at a lot of movies.

It was a little scary for the younger kids, I think. Well deserving of it’s PG-13 rating, I thought. The kids in the theatre didn’t seem to be too scared, but I can’t imagine that they got much of the movie either.

So, there’s my rundown. Let me know what you think when you see it.

Off…

… to see Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.

Will be back later to let you know what I thought.

More organization questions

Thursday, November 17th, 2005

Even though I didn’t get many positive responses on my last post on how to be organized, I’m asking another one.

This one is for the e-book readers (readers of e-books, not the gadgets). How do you organize your ebooks?

It’s to the point that I have A LOT (and even more on my TBPurchased list). Since every e-book publisher seems to be slightly different in regards to how they format their ebooks and name them and stuff, there’s no easy way to do it. At the moment mine are all in a folder called “Ebooks.”

But if I’m looking for something specific, it makes it hard to find. I am terrible with book names so when that’s what I have to look for, I end up waisting a lot of time.

I suppose when I purchase it, I could automatically rename it with Title/Author or something, but that just seems like too much work when really I just want to read the book.

Or am I the only one that has this problem? Am I the only one who likes to read my ebooks over and over again? Probably even moreso than print books?

Once again? How do you organize these things?

It’s supposed to rain today

Wednesday, November 16th, 2005

Those bad storms are supposed to hit me today. I’m anxiously awaiting. I love storms. Especially when I can curl up in a ball with a blanket and watch them.

It’s gotten REALLY windy in the past few minutes, so hopefully they’ll come soon.

But while I’m waiting, I thought I’d tell you about a new group that’s forming. We’re the Great Escape Artists!

A group of super talented authors (and me!) who’ve joined forces to take over the world…Bwahahaha. Oh, was that supposed to be a secret?

Actually we’ve joined forces because it’s fun, we like each other and it’s one more way to get our names out there. Right now, we’ve got a group blog, and we’re working on the website. We’ve got a totally kick ass logo on the way!!

So, go check us out.

Me? I’m going to wait for the rain.

Third Sight by Suzanne McMinn

I suck at reviews, but I can totally say, I LOVED THIS BOOK!!!

All right, I said I was going to talk about it today, but that’s really all I have to say about it. It was great…go read it.

I didn’t find Riley qute as wounded as Kieran (from The Beast Within) but I still wanted to take him home and kiss it all better. And I loved to anthropology angle and the stones (was anyone else channeling Indiana Jones, like me?) mostly because I’m a dork and I like stuff like that.

I think my least favorite part of the book was the cover. It looked great online, but it person, the guy’s nose really creeps me out. Is he supposed to be made of stone? Right now he’s staring at me from next to my computer and he’s giving me the shivers. Have to turn him over. Or put The Beast Within on top.

But, oh my. Check out the cover for the third PAX book? Can anyone say YUMMY?!?!?! February suddenly seems like a very long time away.

Shhh

My network seems to be back to it’s normal self this morning. I’d yell it to the world, but if it’s a mistake, I’d like to keep it quiet.

My mom visited this weekend, meaning I got nothing done. I tried to get caught up last night but could only manage to send so many emails (and really, I don’t think they sent until this morning).

While I’d like to spend today writing, I think most of it’s going to be spent organizing all of my Programming stuff for next year.

Have I mentioned that organization isn’t my strong suit?

Speaking of that. May I ask you fellow writers, how do you keep organizied. And part of what I mean by that is, How do you make sure that you don’t have 10 characters named Sally? How do you remember if you’ve already written that scene where they have a fight in the car?

I’ve got a lot of manuscripts under my belt now and they’re all starting to blur together in my mind. Combine that with the partially written books and scenes that got cut and scenes that were supposed to be, but never got in there, and my mind is a jumbled mess of what I did and didn’t do?

How do y’all help that?

As for reading…can you tell by reading a back cover blurb whether or not you’ve already read the book? Do you keep spreadsheets of books your read?

I’ve been known to read half to 3/4 of a book before realizing that I’ve already read it. (Speaking of reading, I got/read Suzanne’sThird Sight this weekend. Will blog about it tomorrow).

So tell me. How do you organize?

I’m it.

Stupid computer

Thursday, November 10th, 2005

Actually, it’s more like stupid internet connection.

It’s the internet connection that wasn’t. For the last few days I’ve been able to visit one page before it dies and even that is SUPER slow.

This morning got up early to shower just in case they shut off the water again. I can deal with them turning off the hot water, but sometime yesterday afternoon, and into the early evening they shut off the cold water too. I REALLY can’t handle having no water at all. It really emphasizes how often I actually wash my hands when I can’t do it.

But, in my unwashed, no internet and cranky state yesterday, I managed twelve pages of a new story. And they’re twelve pages of doing no research. Since he’s a parachute jumper (see I don’t even know what to call him) I have a lot of, he pulled the thing that did the other thing.

I realized I was kind of freaking about nothing. The Amber Heat thing only has to be 5,000-12,000 words and I think the VP project was 25,000-40,000 (I think) which even if I wrote max on both only leaves me 2,000 words above NaNo pace and I’ve got 2 months to work.

Granted, I’ve got to write and edit, but with projects that short I shouldn’t have to edit THAT much - (and that could have just been the kiss of death for me. I’m knocking on wood now).

Cranky

Wednesday, November 9th, 2005

I have no hot water (again), a migraine, and a verrrry sketchy internet connection.

What are some ways that my day could actually get worse?

What to write

Tuesday, November 8th, 2005

It’s so infrequent that I can actually put something in the writing - practice catagory, I couldn’t resist the chance today.

Yesterday I finished the second book in the fate series. Since the first one is still being shopped around, I think I’ll take a break and work on some other stuff before the third fate book. I want to make sure the first two have a good home before I work on number 3.

Anyway, now I’m in that limbo where I get to figure out what I want to work on next.

My goal for the end of the year is to finish two more projects. One for the Amber heat contest and another for VP. (That sound you hear is the sound of my hysterical laughter).

To be fair, I think both are short (though I should probably check on that) so it may be doable, but a little rough considering it’s November 8 and I have no ideas.

Regardless though, once I come up with ideas, I think I’m going to *gasp* plot.

I know, I know, I have no idea how to plot, but I think I’m going to try anyway. Or at least write the synopsis first. Maybe try an outline or something. But damn it, I need idea’s first!

How come they’re a dime a dozen when I don’t have time to work on anything else, and as soon as it’s time to start a new project they all fly out the window? Anybody have any ideas?

Oh, and by the way, Kate tagged me several days ago, but I’m finding this particular meme challenging. Perhaps I’ll be able to procrastinate - I mean finish it - today.
