Potato soup and Thin Mints
Monday, November 7th, 2005Okay, so obviously not the title of a writing related post (though maybe that’s what I should title my next book - I’d pick up a book with that name).
Anyway…at the Navy game on Saturday, as we were walking through the parking lot watching the tailgaters (and Navy tailgaters are HARD CORE), I kept seeing a lot of people with girl scout cookies on their little foldaway tables. My cookie sense was tingling.
Later, as we were standing around - still “tailgating” or at least watching other people tailgate (several of the parents clubs will feed a thousand or so midshipmen after the game so when I say “tailgating,” think of it to the extrememe - like they were cooking a couple hundred burgers). I saw a mom and two girl scounts walk by (kind of far away) with a wagon full of cookies.
What do I do?
I take off running.
Yes, the only time you can get me to exercise is if I’m chasing some cookies.
I ran through the parking lot yelling, “Girl scouts, wait. Girl scouts!”
I got my thin mints and rejoined the group cluching them to my chest. The hubster simply shook his head at me.
But I don’t care if I looked like a fool. I got me my thin mints!
As for the potato soup part of my title, I made Sela’s Potato Soup last night.
It was so good! And we’ve got several days of lunches left. I admit that as I was making it, I began to doubt that the recipie was going to work (3lbs of potatos in 1 cup of water?) but it worked PERFECTLY. I had to make a few minor adjustments as my grocery store is being remodled and is out of stupid stuff (like cream and half and half) so I added some sour cream instead.
It’s just about impossible to find a potato soup recipe that doesn’t involve a food processor or one of those emersion blender things. I also think it’d be a great base to make other soups - like potato leek or potato cheese. I will most definately be making it again, so thanks Sela!
Mmmm, now I can’t wait for lunchtime. Potato soup and thin mints…*drool*
