Greetings from the Beach!

I’m here in lovely Norfolk Virginia. It’s hot as hell, but I’ll get to spend most of my day at the beach so I’m OK with that - even if the water is tepid at best, but more like bathtub warm. BIL and future SIL live a block away from the beach (if that) but it’s technically the bay which I guess is why it’s so much warmer than expected.

The 3 hours it should’ve taken us to get here yesterday turned into 6 with trouble getting out of DC and then into Norfolk. But, we got here eventually.

We walked on the beach for awhile, ate dinner at Red Robin (which we’ll be having for lunch, too - yummy). Then, last night we drove down to Virginia Beach for some of their nightly entertainment. They have this thing where the entertainers are brought to you by the Virginia Beach Parks dept so they’re not allowed to accept tips. Presumabely they’re already paid something. But because of this, there are A LOT of them - pretty much every half a block, if not closer and some of them are NOT good. But it was fun anyway.

Today The Hubster and I will hang out on the beach before heading over to the Naval Station this afternoon to get a tour of the BIL’s ship. Hopefully we’ll remember to take lots of pictures!

We’re considering driving home a more scenic route, that we know will take longer, but hopefully not the 6 hours it took to get here - but apparently it costs $12 to get across the Chesapeake bay bridge/tunnel!!

I love Virginia beach. So beautiful. I’ve been across the bridge, isn’t that the one where it was underwater? There was one there I kept waiting for Jaws to break through. That movie was popular then.

I also got to visit Jamestown and Colonial Williamsburg and ended at Hershey Park Pennsylvania. It was the best vacation of my life. Well, ‘cept Disney World:wink:

Enjoy! I live about half an hour from Virginia Beach. If you get a chance, drive up to Williamsburg, though. Gadsby’s Tavern is a fun reenactment-style dinner or if you want fine dining, the Regency Room at the Williamsburg Inn is to die for. Love it.

I was in Reno, too. Don’t you hate it when you just can’t meet everyone?
